On February 2nd, the Kansas City Chiefs will face off against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV (54) in Miami, Florida. With 98.2 million viewers in 2019, the Super Bowl was the most-watched sporting event in the United States and has been consistent as football is the most-watched sport in the country.
In 2017, it was estimated that Americans consumed 12.5 million pizzas and 1.33 billion chicken wings during Super Sunday. It should come as no surprise that this day is second to only Thanksgiving when it comes to food consumed during the year. Following these tips will ensure that no matter who wins the game, you are the champion when the clock strikes 0:00.
1. Offer Delivery or Pick-Up
I took a poll of the office and found that a staggering 85% of respondents said that they preferred to order food for delivery or pick-up for the big game. It’s safe to say that offering free delivery or pick-up will ensure that you are still a top choice for customers that will prefer to dine at home on this day. Give A/B testing a try for your email subject lines to promote delivery or pick-up.
2. Make a Push for Catering
The Super Bowl is a popular day for viewing parties with friends and family so large quantities of various foods are standard. Unlike other food-centric holidays, there is no specific type of food that people exclusively dine on during the big game.
From tacos to meatballs there will be people interested in every type of offering. If you offer catering be sure to send out reminders to your fans through an email blast and social media posts early enough to remind them. In 2019, Fishbowl’s email rates showed that January 30, netted the highest open rates.
3. Offer In-House Specials
Although a large number of people will be watching from home, many will still turn out to watch the game at a restaurant or bar. Ensure that you are filling your seats up by offering food specials such as ½ off apps during the game and fun drink specials like discounted beer or offering team-themed drinks for the day of!
